Assembly Automation: Pallet transfer and pallet assembly systems from TQC

TQC are specialists in assembly system technology. Utilising modular construction, TQC's assembly systems can incorporate mechanical materials handling, automatic assembly and other automation processes. TQC have designed and produced a number of sophisticated pallet based automatic assembly and test projects for several demanding applications.

A pallet transfer and assembly system by TQC

Pallet transfer systems (sometime knows as platen based systems) incorporate location tooling for the parts on a pallet and individual stations that incorporate technology modules such as part feeding, robots, vision measurement to automatically carry out sequential operations. A pallet transfer system can be balanced for simple and complex operations by buffering pallets at station infeeds and by duplicating stations if a function takes longer than the overall system cycle time.

The part or parts of the assembly are basically indexed around a system until the required operations have been completed. Finished parts are generally unloaded onto a conveyor system for manual handling or automatically packed.

There are many formats that can be used for a pallet transfer system, the pallet can travel around a single level loop, the pallet can be transferred around in a rectilinear manner with a side transfer at each end or pallet can be moved between different levels, for example the empty pallet return can run underneath. Twin or even multiple track nests are possible, as are interchangeable nests for different variants.

There is a list of case studies below of pallet transfer and pallet assembly systems we've produced for you to explore.

TQC have provided pallet transfer systems for multi-part assemblies for the automotive industry when high volumes required fully automatic solutions handling parts from bulk. Another system supplied allowed operators to load complex parts onto pallet tooling for automatic grease dispensing and function testing operations to be carried out automatically.

The business cases that are addressed by installing a pallet transfer system into your production facility are that operations can be carried out fully automatically with the system producing complete products so there is no work in progress (WIP) produced during normal running. There is also the flexibility of installing new technology modules into the system when required and changing the pallet tooling to accomodate new variants.

A pallet transfer system is a flexible solution that can replace some or all manual labour, allowing production running costs to be reduced. Further benefits are that operations can be quality assured and checked automatically; this being pertinent to many production environments including the pharma and medical sectors, the automotive sectors and aerospace and defence industries.
